Uno dei primi soggetti che si iniziano a raccogliere, di norma perché fra i più economici, sono i cosiddetti marcianti. Questi soggetti sono interessanti quando si vogliono rappresentare delle sfilate dietro alla banda militare o in rassegna. Ecco alcuni esempi Elastolin, Lineol (da preferirsi per la qualità del modello) e di altre marche.
Per gli appassionati di vecchi giocattoli, sono senz'altro da frequentare le "Borse del giocattolo" che si svolgono un po' in tutta Italia, anche solo per vedere o per acquisire utili informazioni.
I mercatini d'antiquariato sia in Italia che all'estero possono essere occasioni da non perdere. Certo non per fare grandi affari ma talvolta si può trovare un pezzo interessante e abbordabile. Suggerisco inoltre i mercatini tedeschi, dove ho incontrato venditori specializzati molto disponibili ad illustrare le caratteristiche dei loro giocattoli in esposizione, a tale riguardo ho verificato che spesso i commercianti italiani sono restii a dare informazioni.
